Pizza Margherita-American Style
Recipe type: pizza
  • 1 pizza shell, about 12 inches in diameter
  • 8 ounces canned pizza sauce or pizza puree
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 18 leaves (or more, relative to size)
  • 8 ounces whole-milk mozzarella, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  1. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over pizza shell
  2. Sprinkle oregano evenly over sauce
  3. Arrange half of the basil leaves over sauce
  4. Sprinkle on shredded mozzarella
  5. Drizzle on olive oil over cheese
  6. Bake pizza until done
  7. Arrange remaining basil leaves over pizza just before serving
