February may be the shortest month, but it’s packed with big pizza days. As winter drags on, here comes three big days to enjoy pizza. Don’t forget to plan for these days and do something fun. The three big pizza sales days include:
Sunday, February 7
Super Bowl LV
Super Bowl Sunday is among the top five busiest days for pizzerias. While 2021 is expected to be a bit different without large gatherings, you can bet plenty of people will be ordering pizza and wings for the big game.
Tuesday, February 9
National Pizza Day
While every day is Pizza Day for us, February 9 has been recognized as National Pizza Day in the States. The origins of National Pizza Day are unclear, but we love a day dedicated to pizza. It’s a good opportunity to offer special promotions or create unique marketing around the food holiday. Tag @pizzatoday on your social campaigns so we can see them.
Sunday February 14
Valentine’s Day
Pizza is the perfect meal for sharing so of course couples love to visit pizzerias on Valentine’s Day. The holiday gives you the opportunity to show your customers the love with heart-shaped pizzas and other Valentine’s Day-specific promotions, like a couple’s complete meal package.
Now is the time to be sure that your operation is geared and ready for the big days. Double-check the following key areas:
Take a look at last year’s sales figures for the big pizza days. Plan to meet or beat them with takeout and delivery.
Make sure you have enough product on hand and prepped. Review your order history and be sure that nothing in your inventory is overlooked. The worst thing to do is run out wings, pizza toppings or dough.
Review scheduling for the shift just before and during the big pizza days. Beef up your staffing numbers if you need to so quality and service does not fail. Have a backup plan for if any employees call in. If you offer delivery, schedule extra drivers. Remember, staff should be focused on expediting flawless takeout and delivery orders.
If you’re dining area is open, be sure you have a plan in place to handle the crowd and meet CDC COVID-19 guidelines. Don’t let your safety get lax on the big days. It may require you to change to room flow.
