It’s starting to feel like there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. A vaccine for COVID-19 is making its early rounds, our Pizza Expo 365 platform is soon to launch and International Pizza Expo 2021 is now just five months away. While much remains to be resolved as our country navigates the grueling and ongoing battle with the novel coronavirus, it’s finally starting to feel like there’s reason to believe 2021 will feel more “normal” than 2020 ever did.
We continue to hear from pizzeria owners across the nation who are struggling to keep the lights on. We also continue to hear stories of triumph from those who, against the odds, have found a way to grow and thrive in the pandemic. Much like the virus itself, we truly don’t know what to expect with each individual case. When I answer a call or e-mail, I never know whether it’s going to end in a positive or negative outlook right now. We’re seeing it all.
We are #PizzaStrong, however, and together we’ve somehow managed to navigate these turbulent waters. While we’re not quite yet to shore, we can see land on the distant horizon. Though we’re battle-worn, weary and just downright done with COVID and its impact on our lives, if we can just hold the line a little longer it feels like a reward is coming.
Imagine returning to Pizza Expo in Las Vegas and once again seeing firsthand all that the industry vendors have to offer. Imagine customers streaming back in to your dining rooms to eat, drink and be merry. Imagine bringing back your full menu and not having to explain to a disappointed customer over the phone that you had to remove the Alfredo lasagna because, well, it just didn’t travel well.
How soon before we get there? While it pains me to not have an answer, the fact is this: I don’t know. And neither does anyone else. But it FEELS like we’re getting there. It feels like there’s reason for optimism. It feels like it’s just a matter of time before we get closer to the unencumbered “good ol’ days.”
Yes, we have a long way to go. But, step by baby step, we’re making progress.
And to that sentiment, it’s time to raise a glass and say, “Happy New Year.” After the year we’ve all had, it’s a pleasure to usher out 2020 and express some hope that 2021 has better things in store for us all.
We remain, always, #PizzaStrong.
Best,
