When I took the reins as editor-in-chief, Jeremy White shared details of a project he was hoping to put in motion this year, spearheaded by the pizza queen, Laura Meyer, and our newest columnist, Melinda Carbajal. The idea: dedicate an issue to industry-leading women.
In the truest form of collaboration, Laura and Melinda set out with Senior Editor Kate Lavin and I to showcase inspiring women and their powerful work in the pizza industry. We reached out to several pizzeria operators to find out who inspires them. The women who were recommended represent an empowering list of influential business icons. In the Women of Influence feature, we have assembled a cross-section of women who are redefining disciplines in the pizzeria business, including Giorgia Caporuscio, Hengam Stanfield, Jane Gorte Abell, Marisol Doyle and more.
We wanted to do more! Throughout every section of this issue, the Departments, Operations and Kitchen features are written by women who have dedicated their professional lives not only to leading their teams but also to educating and motivating the entire pizzeria community. Laura, Melinda, Melissa Rickman, Audrey Kelly, Leah Scurto, Nicole Bean and Erica Bell: You are legacy builders shaping this industry for generations to come. Thank you for taking this opportunity to teach and help businesses flourish and grow.
I’m also joined by talented women who make the magic happen every day at Pizza Today. Kate and Design Lead Katie Wilson make Pizza Today what it is, the best in the business! You rock!
Women of the pizzeria industry – from operators, leadership teams and frontline staff to all the suppliers, distributors, other professionals and organizations who support our thriving pizza community – we dedicate this issue of Pizza Today to you. Thank you for all you do!
With gratitude,
Denise Greer
Editor In Chief
