A look at pizzerias in Providence, Rhode Island
Federal Hill Pizza
The brick-oven pizzeria began in the back of a cigar lounge in 2005 before the full-service restaurant opened in 2010. Chef William Manzo has built his menu based on simple, fresh foods. In addition to its extensive pizza menu, Federal Hill showcases its creative burger options, like the California Dream-in’ Burger (with guacamole, lettuce, tomato, onion, garlic mayo and Monterey Jack cheese for $11.75). There is also the Dublin Burger with Guinness-infused cheddar, caramelized onion, Virginia slab bacon and field greens ($12.50). The pizza menu features an “al taglio” square option in addition to 12- and 16-inch Neapolitan-style crusts. The Owner’s Favorite is topped with fresh mozz, red sauce, prosciutto, mushrooms, goat cheese and basil cooked well-done.

Providence Coal Fired Pizza
The two-unit pizzeria boasts the area’s only coal-fired pizza. Providence makes use of the unique flavor of the coal to also cook its starters. House-favorite apps include the Baked Goat Cheese with roasted veggies and fire bread ($8) and Coal-Fired Wings with sea salt, rosemary and roasted onion ($12 for a small order). Its made-from-scratch dough, meatballs and sauces accompany small-batch mozzarella and specialty cheese from local creameries. The pizza menu features a dozen meaty and vegetable pies. The Rocket is a kicked up Margherita, finished with arugula and Pecorino ($16). Locals love the Clam, showcasing local clams with rosemary, fingerling potatoes, red onion, pancetta and Parmigiano-Reggiano ($18).

Figidini Wood Fire Eatery
Frankie and Kara Cecchinelli opened their cozy pizza spot in the heart of downtown Providence in 2013. Their concept is simplicity, centered on Neapolitan-style pizza, small plates, salads and craft cocktails. No range, no microwave —
everything at Figidini’s is cooked in its wood-burning oven or grill. Frankie is the restaurant’s pizza maker and his passion for perfecting his dough is evident in the crust. Guests can go with staples like the Marinara and Margherita or try the Sweet Potato with goat cheese, caramelized onion, cracked pepper and mozzarella ($16) or the Chef’s Creation ($24).
